livestream reminders

Questions

What this does, what it cannot do, and what it keeps.

Using it

What is this?

A service that watches creators for you and tells you when they are about to stream. You follow a channel here; we notice when a stream is scheduled or starts, and send you an email or a Discord message at the times you chose.

Which platforms does it watch?

YouTube, Twitch and Kick. Scheduled streams, premieres, and streams that just start with no announcement.

One difference worth knowing before you rely on it: Kick has no schedule. Nobody can announce a Kick stream in advance in any way we are able to read, so a Kick channel can only tell you when it starts, while it runs, and when it ends. YouTube and Twitch both publish schedules, so the countdown works on those two.

TikTok and Facebook are not planned: TikTok has no public way to ask whether an account is live, and Facebook only answers about Pages whose owner has connected them, which is not the same product.

Do I need to be subscribed to the creator?

No, and you do not need an account on their platform either. Following somebody here is not a subscription there. It does not touch your YouTube account, does not appear in their subscriber count, and the creator is not told.

How do I follow someone?

Pick the platform, then paste whatever you have: a handle like @creator, a youtube.com/@creator link, a twitch.tv/creator or kick.com/creator link, or on YouTube the link to any video of theirs. We work out which channel it is.

You are asked which platform because the same name is a different person on each of them. Guessing would be wrong about as often as right.

How early can it tell me?

Up to twenty hours before, and as often as ten times on the way there. You pick two things — how many reminders, and how far apart — and they multiply into how far out the first one lands. Ten reminders two hours apart is a nudge every two hours for the last twenty hours. One reminder fifteen minutes apart is one message, a quarter of an hour before.

Being told when it actually starts is a separate answer, because it is a separate question: plenty of people want the countdown and not the interruption, or the interruption and no countdown.

Can it tell me while a stream runs, or when it ends?

Yes to both. Check-ins are the same shape as the countdown, measured forward from the moment the stream really started — useful for a ten-hour marathon you want poking about twice. The end-of-stream message says when it finished and how long it ran.

Can different creators have different settings?

Yes. There is one set of settings per notification channel that applies to everybody, and any creator you follow can override any part of it. Somebody you would get out of bed for and somebody you would watch later do not need the same answer.

How does it reach me?

Email, or a Discord webhook you paste in yourself. A webhook is a URL Discord hands you from a channel’s settings, and we post to it. It is not a bot, so there is nothing to invite to your server and no permission to grant.

Web push is modelled but not built. SMS is not planned — it costs real money per message and needs carrier registration, which is a lot of apparatus for “your stream is starting”.

How does it know, and how fast is it?

On Twitch and Kick the platform tells us directly, in a signed message, the moment a channel goes live and the moment it stops. That is usually a second or two.

YouTube has no such signal. It pushes us a notification when a channel publishes anything, and we then look that video up to find out whether it is a stream, when it is scheduled, and whether it has started. Anything close to its start time is re-checked on a tightening schedule, so a start is usually noticed within a minute or two rather than on some fixed hourly sweep.

All three are also swept on a slow timer, which exists for one reason: a push that never arrives would otherwise leave a stream marked live for ever, and you would get check-ins telling you somebody had been streaming for nine days.

What if a stream is cancelled or moved?

A moved start time re-plans the reminders that have not been sent yet. A stream that disappears stops producing them. Reminders already delivered cannot be un-sent, so a creator who reschedules an hour before you were due a nudge may cost you one wrong nudge.

I did not get a notification. Why?

In rough order of likelihood: the channel is not actually being watched yet — the dashboard says so per creator — or the stream was never announced and started immediately, so there was no before to notify you in, or the email went to spam, or the Discord webhook was deleted at the Discord end. Every channel has a Test button on the settings page that sends a real message and reports what happened to it.

Is it free?

Yes. No paid tier, no trial, nothing to cancel.

Accounts and privacy

Can I use it without giving an email address?

Yes. Ask for a passphrase account and you get six words instead of an address — drawn from a list of 2,178, which works out at about 66 bits, which is not guessable. Those six words are the account. We keep a hash of them and never the words themselves.

The trade is real and it only goes one way: there is no address to send a reset to, so losing the passphrase loses the account. An account like this can only be notified through Discord, because there is nowhere else to send anything.

Why is there no password?

Because a password is one more secret for you to manage and for us to store badly. Sign in with an email address and we send you a link that works once and expires in fifteen minutes. Sign in with a passphrase and the passphrase is the whole credential.

What does signing in with Google give you?

Your email address, and Google’s opaque id for you. Not your password, not your YouTube subscriptions, not your contacts. Those are the two narrowest scopes Google offers.

Do you track me?

No. No analytics, no advertising, no third-party scripts, no tracking pixels in the emails. There is no cookie banner because the only cookie is the one that keeps you signed in. The pages ship no JavaScript at all — that is a property the test suite enforces, not an aspiration.

How do I delete my account?

From the settings page, by typing the word it asks you to type. It is immediate and it takes everything with it: who you followed, your settings, your sessions, the record of what was sent to you. There is no thirty-day window and nothing is held back.

The full list of what exists to be deleted is on the privacy page.

Creators

I am a creator. What does this do to me?

Nothing you can feel. We read the same public schedule anybody can read, through each platform’s own official API. We do not post as you, do not appear in your analytics as a subscriber, and do not tell anybody anything your channel page does not already say in public.

I do not want my channel in here.

Write to and we will stop watching it.
